Formed in the early days of DC punk, I don't think many people would call the Chumps an essential part of the scene, but consider this: it was at a Chumps gig that the Bad Brains were first spotted by the DC community at large, handing out flyers promoting themselves as the fastest band in the world. It was the Chumps who set up the Brains' first real gig. The Chumps did the same for Half Japanese. Consider that twenty years later, Mark Hoback still thinks the Chumps lone EP is the best record he put out on his Round Raoul record label. The Chumps, forgotten though they may be, were important players in the DC scene.
